RISE Institute's Vocational Training Program
All students at RISE Institute participate in prevocational and/or vocational training. Starting at age 14, various vocational assessments and inventories are used to determine each student's vocational strengths, interests and needs.
RISE Institute's goal is to provide students with the skills necessary to maximize their level of independence and productivity in their lives and prepare them for the future. To achieve this goal, RISE Institute offers a continuum of vocational opportunities, including:
• Prevocational/vocational activities in the classroom & the community
• Unpaid vocational training on campus
• Paid work on campus or at local businesses
RISE Institute is a Workability I training site funded by the California Department of Education. Workability I benefits students, employers and the community. Our work training follows the supported employment model. Students are matched with a suitable job opportunity based on skills and interest. A RISE Institute job coach then provides job support including teaching job skills and modeling appropriate work behaviors and social interactions. The job coach breaks work into small steps and collects data to measure progress.
The job coach's role decreases as the student's progress. The job coach helps the student develop relationships with co-workers in the workplace that foster greater independence and a sense of true belonging.
Becoming an employer in RISE Institute's Vocational Training Program is easy! The business offers a challenging employment opportunity. RISE Institute provides screened workers eager to work. We also provide training of students before hiring and ongoing support services.
